A periodontal evaluation is meant for patients showing signs and symptoms of periodontal disease.
Periodontal Scaling & Root Planning
Scaling is the removal of plaque and calculus from the tooth surface. Root planning is the removal of damaged cementum and dentin from the root surface by scraping the root. Root planning and deep scaling are done under local anesthesia, as removing plaque, calculus, and damaged cementum from the root surface is uncomfortable and must be done meticulously.
Periodontal surgery is a procedure designed to restore and regenerate normal form and function to lost and damaged periodontal structures which support the teeth (periodontal ligament, the gum tissue and bone).
